Some preachers compare the Chr life to sitting in a chair. We are not to work for our salvation, they tell us, it’s not all about making a religious effort so that God will save us in return. Faith is about trust, so the illustration goes, faith is like resting in a chair, you trust the chair to hold your weight so you relax into it and you find that it does indeed do what it promised to do.

Well I hope you’re not relaxing too much into your chair this morning because Jesus might just knock you off it! Jesus is less comfortable than we think. The Christian life should not be lived in a chair, but on tiptoes, as we wait with eager expectation and energetic enthusiasm for Jesus to return. Are you ready for his return?
